Corey Hughes – big shoes to fill
The tackling-machine Corey Hughes has joined the Sharks in 2009. He’s highly experienced, a hard worker, and can score tries. At the tail-end of his career, he’s won a well-deserved City Origin jersey. But is he as good as Isaac De Gois, the man he’s replacing?
For the last 18 months, De Gois has been one of the best attackers at the Sharks, and has gained plenty of yards from dummy half line-breaks. Some claimed that in tight games he was the Sharks main attacking weapon. In defence, he was a prolific tackler, and he seemed to enjoy mixing it up with the giants in the front-row.
He is undeniably a superior attacking player to Hughes, but Hughes makes more tackles than De Gois. Hughes has represented City, and De Gois has represented Portugal.
The Sharks have evolved into a top-notch defensive team, and Hughes’ experience and tackling skills will add to this in 2009.
